Start a Home Based Business While Staying Sane

Escher Drawing HandsStarting a home based business while staying sane may seem like an impossibility. “Where will I find the time? How will I get everything done?”

Add to that the fact that some people (mostly people who want you to join them in their business) say, “Oh, it’s really easy to start [this business].”

Don’t believe people when they tell you that.

Starting something new and learning new skills is a lot of work. It drives me nuts when I hear network marketers say their business is easy! It’s not. It’s work.

But at the same time, no, that work doesn’t have to be sanity-challenging. And for me it’s work I enjoy.

If you’re working at something you enjoy, but you’d enjoy it more if you had more time, then these 6 tips to help you build your home based business – while keeping all your marbles – will help.

1. To Build Your Home Based Business, Don’t go Out to Prospect

Yes, I said it. Don’t go out and prospect.

Why?

You give off a completely different vibe when you’re hunting down prospects, versus when you’re out running errands, chatting with people.

Also, prospecting while you’re running errands is a great way to make the most of your time. A lot of people who start a part-time business from home have problems finding enough time to work their business. Since you have to run errands anyway, this is a great two-for-one.

2. Miracle Morning

Miracle Morning by Hal ElrodIf you have a home based business, you absolutely need to get the most done with the hours you have each day.

At risk of sounding trite, Miracle Morning is one of those books that has really been a game-changer.

Before Miracle Morning, I always had a hard time getting up early. I really wanted to, but it never worked. I was always too tired in the wee hours.

Now, 9 times out of 10, my feet hit the floor and I’m off and running… as early as 5:30.

And what to do with all that time in the morning? Miracle morning helps with this, also. It tells you how to get up early, and then what to do with your new-found productivity.

Read my post about Miracle Morning, or just go ahead and get the Miracle Morning book or audio book. You won’t regret it.

3. Get a Handle on Your Finances

Total Money Makeover Dave RamseyIf you have a home based business, you need to make every dollar count. My all-time favorite financial resource? Dave Ramsey’s Total Money Makeover.

One of perhaps the most influential books to cross my desk, the Total Money Makeover has completely changed how we manage our money, and helped us down the path of financial freedom.

That’s saying a lot. It’s also true.

Nothing that Dave says is anything other than what your Grandmother would say or agree with. It’s not rocket science, it’s common sense. And it’s all in 7 baby steps, so you know exactly what to do, and why.

I read a lot, to put it mildly… I have a book “problem”.
These two books are some of the most helpful I’ve come across. 🙂

Thanks for the book recommendations. I may have to pick them up. They look interesting, and they look like they’d be helpful to even people who don’t have a home based business.

So glad you like Tip #4! That was my favorite 🙂 Miracle Morning really, really helped me out, although I certainly couldn’t have gotten up at 5:30 when our kids were little.
